Malibu
Malibu is one of those places i haven't really had the chance to visit on my travels so far. Its close to LA but not somewhere with much in Snowboarding or now Training so its always been a place I wanted to see, but never really happened. Until the road trip.
The legendary Carlinos Reef as they call it here. Actually its crazy. This is where Laird Hamilton was catching waves all the way from one side of the bay through the pier. Unreal. So back to the story. Besides waves, another reason was that since Greg Martin gave us this cook book, we have been intrigued about Malibu Farm, which I was having a tough time believing was on the end of the pier.
Most piers are full of crappy diners and bad food. So to find an amazing spot with a cafe, a restaurant and Espresso bar all within the same bits of old wood is amazing.
Its run by a Swedish woman who set it up, and actually took over a ruby's dinner at the end of the pier, and decided to try opening up her own place, on the back of her growing stature as a chef.
The food is amazing with all kinds of deliciousness including this Salmon salad.
Its very east portland meets california hipster chic.
They have a little store too, and this gives you a quick idea of the view...and here is footage of Laird shooting the pier here when its big.... Unreal!
